 Every Kid Healthy Week

Every Kid Healthy™ Week is an annual celebration of school health and wellness achievements. It takes place during the last full week of April – each day shines a spotlight on the actions schools and families are taking to improve the health and wellness of their kids. We also highlight the link between nutrition, physical activity, mental health and learning – because healthy kids are better prepared to learn and thrive!

Mindful Breathing

GoodForAll.png

Jasper PTSA partnered with Good For All Yoga to produce two videos showing that you can easily practice healthy breathing throughout the day, even when seated. These videos were made with students in mind to be able to view at their desks during the Connect period at school, but they would certainly benefit parents and teachers as well. Please take time to watch these Mindful Breathing videos at home with your family and follow along. We hope you will continue to use them as a resource and please check out the "Good for All" website for more information on their programs.

Big thanks to Jasper PTSA Healthy Lifestyles Chair, Hong Rose Xu, and Alpa Arora from Good For All Yoga for their work on these videos and their passion to help our students with their health.

Practice healthy breathing throughout the day and watch our Mindful Breathing videos at home with your family.

Stress Awareness Month

April is recognized as National Stress Awareness Month to bring attention to the negative impact of stress. Managing stress is an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. Knowing how to manage stress can improve mental and physical well-being as well as minimize exacerbation of health-related issues. Click here for more Stress Awareness Month ResourcesClick here for a Stress Screener

We brought attention to April Stress Awareness Month at Jasper by providing a “Stress-Free Solutions & Snack Station” in the Teacher’s Lounge and Stress-Reducing Solutions for our students during lunches as well. Thank you to Jasper Student Council for their partnership in our efforts this month!

Autism Awareness

Every April Autism Speaks celebrates World Autism Month, beginning with the United Nations-sanctioned World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. This year marks the 17th annual World Autism Awareness Day. Throughout the month, we focus on sharing stories and providing opportunities to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism and fostering worldwide support. This year, we are committed to acting fearlessly for change. To help create a world in which autistic individuals are fully supported, championed and celebrated, we must all work together to achieve true acceptance. We extend an invitation to all who share our vision to join us on our journey toward a brighter, more inclusive future.

The color blue, associated with calmness and acceptance, is the primary color designated for autism. Its popularity also stemmed from the worldwide Autism Speaks initiative, Light It Up Blue. On April 2nd, you’ll see a plethora of blue, as this campaign calls for people to wear blue in support of autism awareness. It has become a distinguished event with iconic world structures such as the Empire State Building illuminated blue.
